Can not manage workstation from Server - 2008/01/08 11:32 Ik have configured a Windows 2003 server and a workstation.

Server : Standard 2003 server = name 13Server13 , domain 13Thuis13.nl
Werkstation : WinXp Pro = name 13WS13

- Workstation is added to the domain.
- I can ping from workstation to server
- I can ping from server to workstation
- I created some users and and i can log in in with those accounts on my workstation
- I made some shared folders on the server and i can access them from my workstation and also map network drives
- From my server i can see all shares with Start-Run 13WS13
From my workstation i can see and access all shares with Start-Run 13Server13

If i go to Active Directory - computers and click right-mouse button on 13WS13(workstation) and click manage i get the following message

Computer 13Thuis13 cannot be managed because the network is unreachable. Verify that your network cabling is securely attached.

Can somebody help me.

After that i tried to edit some default domain policies but they didnt work. I logged in with some account on my workstation but none of the policies worked.

Thanks

I would really appreciate it if somebody can help me out. I have got a test on the 14th of jan so i am really tensed

Re:Can not manage workstation from Server - 2008/01/08 13:27 sounds like a school project.

Most of the times it's dns related, did you install dns on the DC and did you point the dns entries in the network properties of both server and ws to the server's ip address?

Re:Can not manage workstation from Server - 2008/01/09 13:14 Thanks Playwell, on my workstation i didnt put the servers ip-address as the preferred dns server.

But now my workstation doesnt get automatic ip-address from dhcp(installed on the server.

Re:Can not manage workstation from Server - 2008/01/09 13:32 that should work.

You created a scope?

Re:Can not manage workstation from Server - 2008/01/09 14:51 and did you authorize the DHCP server?

Re:Can not manage workstation from Server - 2008/01/09 16:42 Playwell, yes i created a scope and it is activated and i authorized dhcp too.

1 quick question, do i always have to change the preferred dns address on the WS to the Servers IP-address

But i was just thinking, my servers ip is 192.168.13.11

The scope is in range of 192.168.13.13 to 192.168.13.20

The first time when i tried to join the WS to the domain i manually changed the ip-address to 192.168.13.14 and then i could join the domain.

But now when i go to TCP/Ip setting on the workstation and slect Obtain Ip- address automatically it gives me an apipa address in stead of asking dhcp.
