Installing Citrix ICA client on Ubuntu 9.0.4 Print E-mail

The following brief guide will help an end user install and configure the Citrix ICA client on a machine running Ubuntu Linux.

In the past few weeks I have received numerous requests for a step by step guide on how to do this. It seems a lot of users are either buying small netbooks and running ubuntu on them or machines and going down the open source route.

The latest version of Ubuntu (9.0.4) looks really slick and runs really well on machines 3 or 4 years old so the sudden rush towards this OS does make sense.

Anyway here the guide is...

Installation guide for installing the Citrix ICA client under Ubuntu Linux

1. Download the latest Linux client from www.citrix.com

2. Install Openmotif onto your machine

  • sudo apt-get install motif-clients
  • sudo apt-get install libmotif-dev

3. Extract the Citrix client using the tar -zxf command

4. Launch the installer by typing the following

  • sudo  ./setupwfc

5. Now copy all of the Mozilla trusted certificate authorities to your Citrix client directory (This assumes you kept the default path. If you changed the path during installation ensure you copy the ca certificates to the new location.)

  • sudo cp /usr/share/ca-certificates/mozilla/* /usr/lib/ICAClient/keystore/cacerts/

All done, you should now be able to log on and work without issue.

If your organization uses a certificate from an internal CA you will need to get a copy of the root certificate and copy it to each of the locations above.
