Free Download: My 800-page Citrix MetaFrame XP Book

by Brian Madden

One of the students in my training class this week asked if my MetaFrame XP book was still available since he's still running MetaFrame XP. I told him that it wasn't and that I would just give him a PDF version of it. Then it occurred to me that there are probably a lot of people out there who are still running MetaFrame XP who could benefit from this book. (Actually, this book is still pretty relevant with Presentation Server 3 and 4 because not too much has changed architecturally since the XP days.)

Therefore I've decided to post my MetaFrame XP book as a free PDF for anyone to access. Like I said, this content is still fairly relevant. Honestly the biggest change is that I have learned a lot in the past three years (as you can see by reading the articles on this site). Some of the stuff I talk about in this book is not exactly how I would do things today.

But hey, I figured this book wasn't doing any good sitting on my hard drive and getting obsolete, so here it is!

Note: If you link to this PDF, please link to this page instead of deep-linking directly to the PDF file itself.

Hi Brian,

It just wanted to say that I think it's great that you're giving out your book for free. It's a extremely generous gesture!

Regards,
Michel Roth.

Brian, your book is still the best one out there on Metaframe XP, which makes your decision even more generous. Have you still got plans to release a new book on the new Access Suite 4?

Brian,

I bought this book a little over two years ago and loved it. I still refer to it today whenever I run across an XP environment. I told you this in San Diego and I'll say it again man......YOU ROCK!!!!!!!! This was a very generous gesture on your part and I hope a lot of people take advantage of this great reference.

See ya at iForum!!!

I work in a small company that is using a small XP farm to support hundreds of users. The person that set up our farm is no longer with the company and left without leaving any documentation on how our farm is set up. This book will be of great value to me as I try to "wing it". Thank you, and maybe my boss will spring for a trip to the next Bri-forum.

You gave the the Second Edition at iForum one year :)

It's one of the few books that stays on my desk all the time.

Now it's sitting next to VMWare ESX ATDG (Ron / Scott).

Look forward to any future publishings you will have!

Brian you are a living legend in the Server based computing field. I tried buying this particular book twice both times getting lost somewhere and my money re-imbursed.

Thank you very much for making this available in pdf format and for free.....

I've been trying--unsuccessfully--to get a copy of this book. What a lovely and generous gesture for you to GIVE it away! Thanks a million, Brian!

Great work. I was thrown in the deepend with my current job position of our server farm and very poor network setup with no citrix experiance previously and the person who used to try and look after this left me no information or guide on how to operate it.. This book will help my crash course in cirtix. Your invaluable.

Hi Brian,

Awesome job on this book! I purchased your 2003 Terminal Services book and it is by far the best Technical Design aid I have read to date.

When can we expect a PS4 book to come out?

Kind Regards
Richard
