Citrix and SQL2005 Print E-mail
Written by Hans Straat, Tuesday, 12 December 2006
On many forums the question's is Citrix supporting Microsoft SQL2005 server officially is asked more and more. XpKranger on brain madden forum opened a ticked for it at Citrix and he got a official answer back from a citrix engineer. Dear customer,
My name is [name removed to protect the innocent] and I am the support engineer assigned to this case.
At the moment PS 4.0 is not yet fully supported when using with SQL 2005.

Below you will find the Citrix Statement:

This document provides information to customers who may wish to use the latest SQL 2005 Database for the following:

Citrix Presentation Server 4.0
Resource Manager, Summary Database for Presentation Server 4.0

Current Information
The SQL 2005 Database will be supported as a valid database platform for the Resource Manager Summary Database and the IMA data store but has not been fully tested. This statement also applies to earlier releases of the MetaFrame product line.
Customers that want to use this new database platform should follow all guidelines in the Citrix Presentation Server 4.0 Administrators Guide and the Advanced Concepts Guide that reference SQL installations.

Status
Currently, Citrix Engineering has only verified the usage of the SQL 2005 Database as the Independent Management Architecture (IMA) data store. Further testing, including migrations from one database to another, will be needed to fully support this database version. This version of the SQL database will be fully tested and supported for the next release of Citrix Presentation Server.

I hope, I could help you with that.

So conclusion, Citrix is stil testing the migration from SQL2000 to SQL2005 with all functionally's working.  I would advice to wait to migrate to SQL2005 no matter what your manager is asking from you or make sure you got a e-mail from your manager that he or she demands you upgrade and keep a copy on a save place in case the farm breaks.

Thanks to xpkranger for asking citrix!

Just to add to what has already been said. xpkranger received more correspondance from Citrix who have pointed him in the direction of Citrix article CTX677542. They have said that the dsmaint command will work for migration across platforms. I'm in the process of demo'ing vmware so perhaps i'll give it a test when I get a chance and post the results.
