The horror of consoles in Citrix presentation server 4.5 Print E-mail

The title says it partitially,

Citrix made a little horror show how you administer the citrix environment. If you want to see if you have enabled session reliability farm wide you would normally go to the properties of your farm in the Citrix Management Console (CMC). Then hit properties and now you get the warning that the item has been moved see figure 1

console

Citrix decided it's time to move items to the renamed Access Suite Console which currently is called Access Management Console. But this means confusion cause you still can administer the zones from the CMC but the rest is in the AMC. This also goes for the properties of a citrix server.

Servers

  • Ignored Processes > AMC
  • Metric Summary Schedule > AMC
  • Reboot Schedule > CMC
  • Resource Manager Alert Recipients > CMC

Resource Manager Properties stays in the CMC

Printer Management stays in the CMC

Policies stays in the CMC

Load Evaluator stays in the CMC

Isolation Environment stays in the CMC

Installation Manager stays in the CMC

Application properties > Most is gone to the AMC

Strange in Applications is that you can publish a application in the ACM but also can publish a so called Resource Manager Application. Confused? well I am to be honest. But presentation server 4.5 is still in Beta so much can change (added or stripped out).

Citrix is pushing more and more to the MMC snapin Access Management Console which I personally find a improvement. The Citrix Management Console is java driven and it crashes or hangs sometimes totally, which ofcourse also could happen with a MMC.

It will for most of us a complete discovery of what is were again. Have fun discovering were is what to manage the presentation server 4.5 in the near fugure.
