Autopatcher no longer available on neowin.net Print E-mail

Neowin received a call from the legal department of Microsoft stating that the tool that Neowin hosts " Autopatcher" is illegal. Autopatcher enables you to install patches, thirdparty tools, etc. in a windows machine without making connection to the internet.

Autopatcher is a very usefull tool if you are installing new machines with all kinds of thirdparty software allready preinstalled and you want to implement the latest patches. Microsoft states that users are now able to use the update servers using Firefox and that would be the reason to no longer allow Autopatcher. In my opinion Autopatcher is a very popular tool and like most popular tools: you can still find them on binary servers and they won't die easy :) But the big question for the future will be if Neowin are still going to release new versions of Autopatcher now Microsoft has stated their disapproval.

Always all the good tools that get shut down by Microsoft. The ones that are useless and give no benefit at all to the admins are the ones they let fly!

Thanks for that Hans!
