In recent times the term ITIL is being mentioned more and more often. Many businesses in the UK spend bucket loads of money getting consultants in to evaluate their environment and their employees and then drawing up an ITIL implementation plan.
Last night the UK's Office of Government Commerce launched ITIL version 3. ITIL version 3 comprises of 5 main books namely: Service Strategy Continual Service Improvement Service Operation Service Transition and Service Design.
I believe ITIL is a really useful concept. Majority of the substance is very logical and perhaps obvious to us but makes things so much simpler. Things like change management, service desk, asset management, etc are all covered in the ITIL books. If you have days and days of free time it is worth getting hold of the books and having a read through. They are not light bed time readin books but nontheless worthwhile. Particularly if you are an IT Professional or in some form of management role and are looking to implement some form of control in your environment.
