Migrating data from server is sometimes a pain in the butt. Tools are there to help us make life easier and more relaxed. In the past using regedit to export the registry hive containing all shares on a server export, import and run calcs or xcalcs to set permissions again et cetera.
I know these are old tools but heck they are usefull :) so why not shine some light on them again. A hint to Microsoft...UPDATE THEM PLEASE! Print Migrator (usefull to migrate all printers, settings and drivers to another printserver) File migrator (usefull to migrate bulk files including permissions to another file server ADMT (Active Directory Migration Tool: read the overview) GPMC (Group Policy Management Console: usefull to export policies from one domain and import them into another domain) App.exe (For exporting and importing published applications after editting suitable to import into another citrix farm. This tool is included in the Thomas Koetzing resource kit) USMT (user state migration tool) Robocopy + GUI (download the UtilitySpotlight2006 11.exe) XCALCS (not officially supported by Microsoft but darn handy) Process Monitor V1.26 (look for processes, registry glitches, file changes et cetera ) SubInACL (set permissions in about anything like Playwell says) Sydi (document your network link goes to sydi homepage) Exchmbx (read this article on msexchange.org ) TSCMD (developed by SystemTools. a command line util to set user propertys in a TS environment) ADModify.net (used for bulk user attribute modifications) More tools should be arround, please post comments so we can add them to this article. |
