Article updated!!30/11/2006 Microsoft released the terminal services client 6.0 for Windows XP in the download section. We already had the rdp6 client running but that required a few replacements of the original mstsc.exe in both windows\system32 directory and the caching directory. It's now officially installed and there are backup's made... We made a few screenshots of what to expect of the new rdp client. What we first see is they totally changed the look of the rdp client with more collors and other tabs. Microsoft replaced the security tab with the advanced tab. Figure 1
Upgraded collor depth to 32 bits collor. If we really want that? I don't know the more collor the more bandwith consumed. figure 2
Local decives and resources. Look at figure 4 the screenshot of the more part :) Figure 3
You can now choose smartcard logon and add supported plug and play devices. Figure 4
Nothing has been changed here. You can fill in program path file name etc to start a program when you connect. Figure 5
New in Experience is Font Smooting and Desktop composition Figure 6
In the advanced tab you can find the security options back. New is the "connect from anywere" throug a Terminal server Gateway server. Figure 7
Here you see the options you have to connect to a TS Gateway. You can either automaticly detect them or preconfigure were the server resides or simply don't use a gateway server. Figure 8

After browsing forums I saw some strange answers on how to remove the RDP6 client from a workstation or server. Suggestions like replace the mstsc.exe with the old mstsc.exe were some of the answers. Here is how we have done it. Open add/remove programs and mark "Show updates" now browse to you see update KB925876 see figure 9. You can only choose "Remove" Figure 9
As you can see at figure 10 the Software update removal wizard will kick in and rollback the RDP6 installation. Figure 10
After enumerating all steps the software is removed. A reboot is not required you get right away the RDP5.x version back and can use it straigt away. Figure 11
